Pictou-North Colchester Sheep Fun Day

 The Northumberland Sheep Producers’ Association is hosting its Annual Sheep Fun Day on Saturday, September 6th, 2014 at the Pictou-North Colchester Exhibition Grounds.

Sheep must be on the exhibition grounds by noon with classes beginning at 1:00 PM and ending near 4:00 PM. A potluck supper for participants, show donors and Northumberland Sheep Producers’ Association members will follow in the show tent.

NO ENTRY FEES FOR ALL SHEEP EVENTS; PRIZES FOR ALL CLASSES VIA DONATION

Classes are open to all producers and 4-H Members

CLASS 1: JUNIOR SHOWMANSHIP

Open to participants 18 years of age and younger.
CLASS 2: SENIOR SHOWMANSHIP
Open to participants 19 years of age and older.

CLASS 3: CHAMPION SHOWMANSHIP

The 1st and 2nd place show people from the Junior and Senior Showmanship Classes will compete for the placing of Champion Showman.

CLASS 4: MARKET LAMB

1st par of temporary incisors must be in place. Animals are to be sheared and clipped and can be of either sex.

CLASS 5: RAM LAMB CONFORMATION

1st par of temporary incisors must be in place.

CLASS 6: SINGLE YEARLING RAM CONFORMATION

3rd pair of temporary incisors must be in place.

CLASS 7: CHAMPION RAM CLASS

The 1st and 2nd place rams from the Ram Lamb and Yearling Ram Classes will compete for the placing of Champion Ram.

CLASS 8: EWE LAMB CONFORMATION

1st pair of temporary incisors must be in place. Lambs are to be show individually; they may be taken from a pen of three or be brought separately.

CLASS 9: SINGLE YEARLING EWE CONFORMATION
3rd pair of temporary incisors must be in place. Lambs are to be show individually; they may be taken from a pen of three or be brought separately.

CLASS 10: CHAMPION EWE CLASS

The 1st and 2nd place ewes from the Ewe Lamb and Yearling Ewe Classes will compete for the placing of Champion Ewe.

CLASS 11: WOOL BREED CONFORMATION

In this class the quality of the wool and uniformity of the fiber within the fleece of the sheep is being judged.

CLASS 12: PEN OF THREE REPLACEMENT EWE LAMBS

1st pair of temporary incisors must be in place.

CLASS 13: PEN OF THREE YEARLING EWES

3rd pair of temporary incisors must be in place.

CLASS 14: DRESS A LAMB

Participants will be 13 years of age and younger. Participants will dress their lambs up in costume for showing in this class. The participant may choose to dress in costume as well.

A sheep shearing demonstration will take place prior to the show. Any market lambs not sheared prior to arrival at the show may be sheared as part of this demonstration

Sheep need to be on the grounds and in their pens by noon of show day. Classes will begin at 1 pm and will wrap up near 4 pm.

A potluck supper will take place at that time for participants, show donors and Northumberland Sheep Producers Association Members in the show tent following the classes and award presentations.
